Misa de Gallo – Day One

16 Dec

Its that time of the year again! Where in most Filipinos will do their best to wake up around 3:45am to fix and prepare themselves for one sacred ritual done before Christmas. It is the “Misa de Gallo” or “Simbang Gabi” for many. This celebration is observed by having a Holy Mass for nine days straight, specifically done during early mornings. This festive event starts every dawn of December 16th until the Holy Mass during the Christmas eve. Most people take this as a very big challenge to complete since waking up to a very early call time is indeed uneasy to do. A very nice thing for motivating a person to pursue all mornings of “Simbang Gabi” would be the mystical prize upon the completion of it – you can basically wish for anything and happily wait for that to be granted. :)

As for me… Challenge accepted.

I will complete this year’s “Simbang Gabi”.

I have a wish too.

I will gladly wait for it to happen.

I will write about each day’s celebration and my personal reflection about the Holy Mass.

For today’s celebration, the Gospel focused on the introduction of our dear Lord to everyone. The priest tried to let us know how important it is to really identify ourselves before assuming any other credential to be written down before our name. If we truly understand ourselves, then we could really shine the best for others to see and hopefully inspire them to shine too. The message was very simple but deep enough for everyone of us to reflect.

As for me, I am always thankful to the very last detail I have. Be it on the physical, social, mental, financial, anything.

Of course I took some pictures too. Which added to my motivation to complete this year’s “Simbang Gabi”. Here are some of today’s “highlights” :)

And after the mass. Jogging! :) See you tomorrow! :)
